The Next Step for New Believers in Christ
The Ministry and Government of the Holy Spirit
A dangerous misconception exists among church leaders and their congregations involving what the Bible refers to as “The Baptism in the Holy Spirit”. When anyone first hears the Gospel and places their faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to indwell (live inside) that person and remains until the future ‘day of redemption’. This radical Divine act is referred to in the New Testament as “the sealing of the Holy Spirit” which is God’s guarantee that we will remain sealed - and saved - until He returns. All true believers receive this “sealing” by faith in Christ alone … apart from their behavior, works and merit (See Ephesians 1:13-14, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 4:4-8 and Titus 3:5-7 - also read about “God’s Guarantee” In 2 Corinthians 1:22 and 2 Corinthians 5:5). The Bible refers to this sealed spiritual condition as being “saved - or born again”. The ‘indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit’ is what validates salvation for all those living after the cross and the day of Pentecost recorded in Acts chapter 2.
However, the New Testament also reveals that once a person is saved they should now seek an impartation of power through being “Baptized with the Holy Spirit”. Many make the mistake of thinking we get everything when we first believe in Christ and are “sealed”. Yet, contrary to popular church teaching, the “Sealing of the Holy Spirit” and “The Baptism in the Holy Spirit” are two totally different things. As a result, Scripture treats them as two separate impartations or events. Believing that we “get it all when we are saved”, as many preachers claim, is what keeps most Christians (who may be authentically saved) from seeking the power that comes through Holy Spirit Baptism. This provides us with one reason the modern-day Christian Church is powerless, ineffective ... and is now collapsing. In this section, we attempt to dispel some of these misconceptions.
"John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He (Jesus Christ) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." (Luke 3:16)
